Talk:hầm bà lằng

@Fumiko Take, PhanAnh123 Could you take a look at this entry? The definitions of this word are unclear to me.

Vietnamese Wiktionary has the following definition:

Nói ai đó bị man hoặc có khi nói là “man man” (giống như man mát) hoặc khùng điên.

But according to Cùng học Tiếng Việt, this sense is considered unsupported – most people use it to mean “tất cả”, “đủ thứ”, “lộn xộn”, “linh tinh”. Do both senses exist?

Any input regarding etymology is also appreciated; cf. Cantonese 冚唪唥 (ham6 baang6 laang6), Min Nan 含巴攏／含巴拢 (hâm-pa-lang). Variant: hằm pà làng. (A Cantonese etymology seems likely IMO.)

"Hằm bà lằng" means a mix of all kinds of things (often unrelated to each other); another term with a bit of similarity in meaning is hổ lốn. So Cùng học Tiếng Việt is more accurate. PhanAnh123 (talk) 13:40, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
