"In the way" is not idiomatic. To be in the path or way of an object is to be blocking or hindering. The meaning of the phrase "in the way" is exactly the meaning of its individual words; idioms receive meaning from nonliteral and nonstandard connotations, so "in the way" is not an idiom. The label "idiomatic" on the Entry page should be deleted.
Missing sense, = on the way?
editChambers 1908 also defines this as "on the way", presumably in the sense of "coming, approaching". Might be archaic. Equinox ◑ 23:20, 19 July 2019 (UTC)
