I can't help noticing that survey comes from the Old French words for 'over-' and 'see'. It could be a coincidence, but more like one is a calque of the other, or more generally the Romance term is a calque of the Germanic one, or the other way around. It might be too difficult to get enough evidence together to put this in the etymology. Mglovesfun (talk) 11:23, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
