Dialect Meaning edit
I’ve added the dialect sense of ‘crumpet’ for ‘pikelet’. There are Black Country dialect dictionaries listing this and the talk page of the ‘Lincolnshire’ page on Wikipedia says that the word is used the same way there, though unfortunately dead links are referred to in the conversation. My Nan is from Birmingham and says ‘pikelet’ for ‘crumpet’ and on the ‘Rate My Plate’ FB group someone from South Yorkshire posted a crumpet they described as a Pikelet and in the comments some people, mainly also from South Yorkshire, said they used the word in the same way. It may be difficult to durably attest this sense though, I’ll try to add examples if I can find them.Overlordnat1 (talk) 09:15, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
Unhelpfully Joseph Wright’s dialect dictionary treats even the ‘thin crumpet’ definition of ‘pikelet’ as dialect and oddly defines ‘pikelet’ and ‘crumpet’ as types of ‘tea cake’ but his definition and examples do suggest that the words can or could be used interchangeably, at least in the 19th centuryOverlordnat1 (talk) 09:36, 25 June 2021 (UTC)
