Chambers 1908 defines both noun and verb as applying specifically to fox dung. Equinox ◑ 18:12, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

And at least a hundred other dictionaries do too. I scrolled though all 1,072 Results on Archive.org for "scumber" and added every actual use (not merely mention/definition) of the word, all 12. At least in attestable works of writing, it is used most often of people and dogs. Vuccala (talk) 22:13, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
