Declension edit

How is this noun declined, exactly? Since it's usually neuter, would the accusative singular be "vulgus" and the nominative and accusative plural "vulga"? --334a 04:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I fixed it TTBOMK. "vulgus" is irregular like much of Latin grammar, but some things are certain: vulgus as a neuter is invariable nom/acc/voc like all neuters. vulgus has no plural whatsoever. The rare masc. shows acc. vulgum and (possibly) voc. vulge. The only thing I am not 100% sure on is the vocative, but I am willing to bet on it. Maikxlx 17:20, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Odi profanum vulgus et arceo. So yes, it's neuter and the accusative is the same as the nominative.24.160.34.74 21:06, 28 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Relationship with Greek ὄχλος edit

Has anybody ever attempted to link Latin vulgus with ancient Greek ὄχλος? The similarity is striking, both in meaning and in pronunciation (the Greek word lost, regularly, an initial w-). --Xelloss (talk) 20:42, 25 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
