editI found the current definition to be overly constrained, based on the references that I provided, which define a "windjammer" as a "sailing ship". Adding large size or metal hull does not comport with common usage. I'm fine with adding: "especially large iron-hulled sailing vessels". HopsonRoad (talk) 13:47, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
- The references were exactly the problem. We're a descriptive dictionary based on usage, so, unlike the practice at Wikipedia, there's no need to regurgitate another dictionary's lengthy definition. See WT:CITE, WT:CFI. Chuck Entz (talk) 13:58, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply, Chuck Entz. I infer that it was the form of entry, not its content that was at issue. One of the references was a magazine, not a journal. The dictionary reference cited was briefer than the one reverted to. Would it not be appropriate to base the citation on a consensus of other dictionaries?
