Usage

edit

This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote from the first English translation by Lewis Page Mercier and Eleanor E. King of Jules Verne's works De la Terre à la Lune, trajet direct en 97 heures 20 minutes (1865) and Autour de la Lune (1869) entitled From the Earth to the Moon, Direct in Ninety-seven Hours and Twenty Minutes: And a Trip Round It (1st edition, 1873; and 1874 version). It can be used to create links to online versions of the work at the Internet Archive:

  • 1st edition (1873) [not currently available online].
  • 1874 version.

Parameters

edit

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |year=mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 1874 edition, specify |year=1874. If this parameter is omitted, the template defaults to the 1st edition (1873).
  • |1= or |chapter=, and |chaptername= – use |1= or |chapter= to specify the chapter number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals (or, if quoting from the preliminary chapter in "Round the Moon", |chapter=Preliminary), and |chaptername= the name of the chapter.
  • |2= or |page=, or |pages=mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
    • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
    • You must also use |pageref= to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).
This parameter must be specified to have the template determine the part of the work quoted from ("From the Earth to the Moon" or "Round the Moon"), and to link to an online version of the work.
  • |3=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
  • |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
  • |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
