Relationship to ja-noun etc? edit

As Template:ja-noun and other POS templates support inclusion of a kanji parameter, should Template:ja-def be considered obsolete except for special circumstances? --Ceyockey 03:33, 30 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think the idea of this template is for use in lists, with by far the most common use being on a page that gives a phonetic form (e.g., つき), to give different kanji forms. Basically it’s a specialized Japanese template for the usual {{l}} list template.
By contrast, {{ja-noun}} and the like are for the head of a specific meaning.
So you’d use {ja-noun} on the page for (in meaning “moon”, “month”, etc.), but use {ja-def} on the page つき on the line that has 月 as a possible kanji for this.

Return to "ja-def" page.
