This template is used to display a headword-line for a Japanese noun. It should be used beneath a ===Noun===
header. Do not use this for proper nouns, which require {{ja-pos}}
and go under a ===Proper noun===
header.
The template automatically categorizes the entry into Category:Japanese nouns.
The entry is automatically added to Category:Japanese hiragana or Category:Japanese katakana as the case may be.
Usage
Most things are automatic now. An entry in kana needs no parameters at all. An entry with kanji requires at least one parameter with kana (mixed kana is OK.) For example, りんご should have {{ja-noun}}
, or ご飯 should have {{ja-noun|ごはん}}
.
{{ja-noun|(form)|count=|rom=|kanji=|kyu=|shin=}}
Unnamed parameters is for a spelling of the term in kana.
As for named parameters, the following are available:
- hhira historical hiragana
- hkata historical katakana
- rom romaji (Optional)
- Romaji is generated automatically but may be overridden manually. Using marked-up kana (see below) means that this is almost never necessary.
- kyu kyūjitai
- shin shinjitai
- count counter word, preferably in the same form. Use - (count=-) for uncountable (不可算)
Examples
The following example is for the noun あい.
Everything is automatic. No parameters need be set.
{{ja-noun}}
Output:
- あい (romaji ai)
For the noun 藍色: {{ja-noun|あい.いろ}}
Output:
For the entry パソコン:
{{ja-noun|count=台}}
Output:
Sometimes, the correct romanization depends on where word or morpheme boundaries lie. Three symbols are used for markup: a space character, a period, and a hyphen. Mark up the kana in the first unnamed parameter to simultaneously generate both the kana and the romaji in the headword like this:
Part of speech | Input | Resulting kana | Romanization |
---|---|---|---|
Noun | き.いろい いんせき | きいろいいんせき | kiiroi inseki |
Proper noun | まさ.あき さとう-さん | まさあきさとうさん | Masaaki Satō-san |
Suffix | たい | たい | -tai |
Prefix | きゅう | きゅう | kyū- |
Hyphens are added automatically to the romanizations of suffixes, counters, and prefixes. The first letters of the romanizations of proper nouns are capitalized automatically.
