Etymology edit

Compound of the toponym Toren (here referring to an area of reclaimed land) and veld (“field”). The first element may be a reference to the polder's location behind the one of the defensive towers of Zevenbergen, its tapering shape, or it may be a variant of doorn (“thorn bush”).
