Dutch edit

Etymology edit

First attested as in parochia de Ubach in 1312-1350. The element Ubach is a compound hydronym derived from an uncertain first element and beek (brook, stream). The first element of the hydronym has been linked to Limburgish oe (land next to a current), although the oldest attestations of the hydronym preclude such a reading. The element over Worms refers to the hydronym Worm and was added to distinguish the municipality from the neighbouring Übach-Palenberg. Formerly the name of one of the municipalities that were fused to form Landgraaf.
