HAB
editHi, Serouzh! "Armenian Root Dictionary" may not be the best translation but it is by far the most common. So it is more preferable. --Vahag (talk) 20:51, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Vahag, what matters isn't what is more "common", but what is more correct. In English, "Armenian Root Dictionary" simply does not have any meaning. Either it should be Armenian Etymological Dictionary, or it should be Armenian Root Word Dictionary. Best, Սէրուժ (talk) 21:39, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, most translations done in Armenia aren't by native English speakers, and therefore the translations that have proliferated are quite often incorrect, or at the least imprecise.Սէրուժ (talk) 21:45, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- An even better translation, in my opinion, in that it reads nicer is Dictionary of Armenian Root Words.Սէրուժ (talk)
- The problem with "root word" is that HAB has many headwords which are not words, they are roots. E.g. կանգ, is not an independent word *կանգ, it as root, կանգ–. --Vahag (talk) 22:17, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- A "root" is a word, regardless of whether it is independently used as a word or not. See the Wikipedia article on root wherein "root word" is listed as a synonym (i.e. in bold) as Root (the title of that article). In other words, a linguistic "root" is always a word. - In any case, that is a side-issue. The main problem with "Armenian Root Dictionary" is that it is a nonsensical phrase in English. Dictionary of Armenian Roots would be next best, if you still have an issue with Dictionary of Armenian Root Words.Սէրուժ (talk) 00:16, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Let it be as you wish. By the way, should we expect new additions to Nayiri soon? --Vahag (talk) 06:45, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Vahag, yes, I'm hoping that the following will be available soon: Գաբամաճեան (1910), Գայայեան (1938), Աճառեան (1913), Ռուս-հայերէն բառարան (Ղարիբեան, 1977, 2d printing; 1982 3rd printing), and a few other Western Armenian dictionaries. Also hopefully soon: Ջահուկեան (2010), Աճառեան's Անձնանունների, a set of French/Armenian dictionaries, and some Russian/Armenian dictionaries :) .Սէրուժ (talk) 20:39, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oh my, what treasures! Especially Գաբամաճեան, which I don't have in print. --Vahag (talk) 06:21, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Nayiri hotkeys
editHi, Serouj. I remember that there were keyboard hotkeys for switching between image versions of a dictionary on Nayiri. What was it? Also, is there a hotkey for switching between dictionaries? --Vahag (talk) 08:24, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Vahagn, you remember correctly: the hotkeys simply correspond to the version number specified at the start of the drop down: number pad 1 for #1, 2 for #2, etc. 0 corresponds to #10, and in the rare event, Q corresponds to #11, and W to #12. There is no hotkey for switching between dictionaries, but I think that would be a nice feature; any suggestions?. I need to fix the drop-down issue ASAP to have the dictionaries sorted by their sub-categories. I think I'll get to it just after I release the classic Lusignan dictionary which is almost ready. I think it will be released in about a week. Quite a masterpiece... Սէրուժ (talk) 21:46, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps, Ctrl + ↑ and Ctrl + ↓ could switch the dictionary. Or there would be a button, that would open the drop-down list of Փոխել բառարանը՝ and then we would pick the dictionary with arrows. --Vahag (talk) 06:09, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
