Etymology Templates

edit

Hi, don't remove request templates for etymologies, inflections, etc. when they should be filled in. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 19:19, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Surjection: But why? Years pass and no one fills them. 178.120.11.81 19:36, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because they add the entries to categories from where users can easily find them, and can also inspire them to add them. Likewise it also clearly shows that an etymology etc. is simply missing, not that there intentionally isn't one. In short, many reasons, while there are no valid reasons to remove them. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 20:07, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Surjection: But people can add the etymologies anyway, they don't need a template for that. If you know the etymology you add it; if you don't, you just add the definition.
Etymologies are nice to have, but they're not as important as definitions. Personally, I only look etymologies for Germanic and Romance words.
Those for Indo-Iranian languages tend to not be as reliable. It'd be nice if all the etymologies were there, but it's not realistic to expect that every entry will have the corresponding etymology or that it will be filled eventually. 178.120.11.81 20:40, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Of course people can add etymologies anyway, but the requests express interest for etymologies of particular words over others. "it's not realistic to expect that every entry will have the corresponding etymology or that it will be filled eventually". No, it absolutely is, and even if it isn't, it is nevertheless the long-term goal. And none of this still justifies removing the request templates. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 20:42, 22 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Why there is need of verification when old and modern dictionaries already held this term?

Plz clarify me🙏 গহীনঅরণ্য (talk) 15:18, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
