Word of the Day

For the word of the day, I have recorded two OGG audios for two words (raspy and haiku). Could you update the the templates? Thank you. --The New Mikemoral 23:39, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

If the files were uploaded with the correct file names to Commons, then the templates will not need to be updated. However, you used non-standard capitalization, and that's what's leaving the links red. When you upload audio files, please use lower-case filenames. Wiktionary is very case-sensitive. You can correct the problem by re-uploading and asking Commons to then delete the duplicates with the incorrect capitalization. --EncycloPetey 01:56, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

FYI

Just because a category is empty doesn't mean it should be deleted. An example is the one you rfd'd. Also, note that if something obviously needs to be deleted instantly then you can use {{delete}}. 50 Xylophone Players talk 01:01, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, you need a recording device (mic/digital recorder) of course. I have been using Audacity. The naming style for audio (for you) is "En-uk-word.ogg". Dutch templates

Hi. I would like to make you aware that there are standard Dutch templates we use to create entries such as trapje. They can be found here: User:Jamesjiao/Dutch templates . Audio

Hi Mike, I like the sound quality of your audio files. What is the reason you record in stereo (and not mono)? How do you add the metadata to each file? It would be a lot to enter them manually. Is there a special setup in Audacity that you could recommend to achieve a better sound clarity? Or do you use Noise removal? Thanks. --Panda10 (talk) 19:35, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

@Panda10 It's not quite in stereo, but the mono track doubled which is the default in Audacity it seems and it really doesn't do anything, so there's not a real reason for keeping it. I probably should set it to record in mono. When you click export in Audacity and you select to save as Ogg Vorbis audio, it should pop up with a window that says "Edit Metadata", which gives you the option of filling in the various metadata tags. It also allows you to save the tags and set them as the default so it is already filled out, and you only have the date, track title, or whatever to change. You can use VLC media player to check the metadata and also edit it. Really the only thing I do to edit the audio is noise removal for the most part, so it is a relatively slow process. —Mikemoral♪♫ 21:17, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I tested the metadata tags, saved them in an XML file and set it to default, and it works great. I do noise removal, as well, but I am still not happy with the end result and I'm not sure what else to do about the clarity. --Panda10 (talk) 21:31, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Request for edit review

Hi Mikemoral, I see you're part of the project to fill in missing audio on Wiktionary. Could you review my work on the gyro article, and give me feedback? Specifically I want to know if you have suggestions for how I could better format my audio work's inclusion in the article. Sorry for the delay. I've been away for the last couple of weeks. I'm not able to listen to the audio at this exact moment (I can't seem to find my headphones), but generally audio for Wiktionary is added in the Ogg Vorbis format.
