Dutch edit

Etymology edit

First attested as die vloet in 1463. Derived from a variant of dialectal vloet (low-lying pasture next to a watercourse which floods regularly). A derivation from vloot (shallow tub) (here referring to a depression in the landscape) is considered less likely. Compare Vloeieind and Vloet.

Pronunciation edit
