Wieuwens
Dutch edit
Etymology edit
Potentially attested as wijbens in 1504, attested with certainty as Wieuwens of Sprong in 1844. If the oldest attestation refers to the current settlement, a derivation from West Frisian Wibe (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ens is possible. If the oldest attestation does not refer to the current settlement, a derivation from Old Frisian Wieu (“a personal name”) suffixed with the collectivising suffix -ingi- is possible.
