- A family now treated as subfamily Xanthorrhoeoideae in family Asphodelaceae.
- (before APG III) A taxonomic family within the order Asparagales – the grass trees.
- (after APG II) A taxonomic family within the order Asparagales – the grass trees, daylilies, and diverse related plants that produce anthraquinones and have flowers of long leafless stalks known as scapes.
