From emneidiaf (“to gesture, beckon, hint”), from Proto-Brythonic *ėnmėtjɨd, from *an- (“intensive prefix”, from Proto-Celtic *ande- (“intensive prefix; inside”)) + Proto-Celtic *smatyeti (“to beckon, nod, gesture”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)mh₂t-yé-ti, from *(s)meh₂- (“to beckon, signal”).
