editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Nuristani *ānnabritá, an old compound with the first part being cognate with Sanskrit आञ्जन (ā́ñjana, “fat, ointment”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₃éngʷn̥ (“butter, fat”), and the second from Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰr̥tás, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰr̥-tó-s (“borne, carried”), from *bʰer- (“to bear, carry”); thus literally "fat-borne". Cognate with Kamkata-viri anū́, anév, Waigali ënëvřë.
