Uncertain. Compare Romanian refeca, refec. Possible etymologies include Latin refricō (compare Portuguese refegar, refregar), a Vulgar Latin *orificō, from ōrificium, or a root *reficcō, from ficcō (compare Italian ficcare). Less likely of Slavic origin.
