Etymology edit

From Proto-Turkic *ād- (“sober, to sober up”), whence also ayılmaq (“to awaken”). Cognate with Karakhanid اَذِغْ (aδïɣ), Turkish ayık, Crimean Tatar ayınıq, Bashkir айыҡ (ayıq), Chuvash урӑ (ură).
