From Proto-Albanian *baskā, from Proto-Indo-European *bʰask- (“bundle”). Cognate to Ancient Greek φάσκωλος (pháskōlos, “leathern bag, sack”), Ancient Macedonian βάσκιοι (báskioi, “fasces, bundle”), Latin fascis (“band, bundle”), Middle Irish basc (“collar, neck chain”).
