From Proto-Aslian *bɯɯl (drunk), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓul ~ *ɓuul (drunk). Compare Old Mon balḅul (drunk, intoxicated) and Old Khmer vul, whence Khmer ពុល (pul, poisonous, toxic, sick).
