big ring (uncountable)

  1. A type of marbles-game.
    • 1971, Gwen White, Antique Toys And Their Background, page 29:
Boys [in the Orange Free State] played 'big ring', which may have come from the Cape Malays. A ring was drawn by scratching with a stick in the dusty surface of the school playground, or market square, about ten or 15 feet across, and the surface trodden bare and flat in the hot African sunlight.
