From Ottoman Turkish بلاقید و شرط, from Arabic بِلَا (bilā, without), قَيْد (qayd, restraint), شَرْط (šarṭ, condition). Appeared as a set phrase c. 1920. In modern use replaced by kayıtsız şartsız.
