cứt
VietnameseEdit
EtymologyEdit
From Proto-Vietic *kəc ~ *kɨc (“faeces”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ʔic ~ *ʔiə(c) ~ *ʔ(ə)c (“excrement; faeces”). Cognate with Arem kʉc.
This is one of three known cases of velar initial in Vietnamese corresponding to zero-initial in other Austroasiatic branches. The other two cases are củi (“firewood”) and the dialectal cảy (“swollen”).
