2. (by extension, video games) An automated benchmark sequence built into a video game.

Usage notes

• The term has a negative connotation due to canned benchmarks historically being inaccurate and not representative of real-world performance. Some hardware manufacturers have also been caught cheating in canned benchmarks by changing the hardware's behavior when a canned benchmark program is being run.
