Etymology

edit

From international scientific vocabulary, from New Latin, from Ancient Greek χυμός (khumós, juice, fluid, humor), with reference to edema. By surface analysis, chemo- +‎ -osis, although this is in the nature of a false friend, as the word is not specific to exogenous chemical–induced cases of conjunctival irritation.

Noun

edit

chemosis (plural chemoses)

  1. (medicine) Swelling and/or (especially) edema of the conjunctiva of the eye.
