From Ancient Greek χοροειδής (khoroeidḗs, alteration of χοριοειδής (khorioeidḗs, like the afterbirth)), from χόριον (khórion, membrane that encloses the fetus in the womb, afterbirth) +‎ -ειδής (-eidḗs, -like).
