Central FranconianEdit

Alternative formsEdit

  • deitsch (Moselle Franconian)
  • döksch (native in much of Ripuarian, but widely archaic)
  • deutsch (variant from standard German)

EtymologyEdit

From Old High German *diudisc, northern variant of diutisc, from Proto-Germanic *þiudiskaz. The form dütsch is native in western Ripuarian, in central and eastern Ripuarian it is likely a compromise form between native döksch and outside forms (including standard German deutsch).

PronunciationEdit

AdjectiveEdit

dütsch (masculine dütsche, feminine dütsch, comparative dütscher, superlative et dütschte)

  1. (Ripuarian) German; of Germany
