From Proto-Turkic *dẹri (skin)[1]. Cognate with Turkmen deri, Turkish deri, Kazakh терi (teri), Karachay-Balkar тери (teri), Kumyk тери (teri), Kyrgyz тери (teri), Uzbek teri, Uyghur تېرە(tëre), Yakut тирии (tirii), Dolgan тирии, Tatar тире (tire) and Bashkir тире (tire).
