Etymology edit

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish طیاق یمك (dayak yemek, to receive a beating),[1] equivalent to compound of dayak (beating, support) +‎ yemek (to eat), literally to eat a beating.[2] Cognate with Kazakh таяқ жеу (taäq jeu).
