From Old Occitan obrir, ubrir (with an initial d- appended; cf. the variant obrir), from Vulgar Latin *operīre (probably through the influence of cooperīre), from Latin aperīre, present active infinitive of aperiō. See also French ouvrir, Piedmontese deurbe, Lombard dervì.
