Etymology edit

From Middle Irish echtrad, from Old Irish echtra (tale, narrative, history), from echtar (without, outside), from Proto-Celtic *extros. Doublet of eachtradh. Cognate with Irish eachtra (adventure). Compare Welsh eithr (except, beyond), Latin exter (outer).
