From Ancient Greek ἐπι- (epi-, “upon”) + μέρος (méros, “a part”).

epimeron (plural epimera)
- (zoology) In crustaceans, the part of the side of a somite external to the basal joint of each appendage.
- (entomology) In insects, the lateral piece behind the episternum.
