Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ار كج (er gec),[1][2] from ار (er, early) and كچ (geç, late),[3][4] equivalent to er (early) +‎ geç (late). Cognates with Bashkir иртәме-һуңмы (irtəme-huñmı), Kazakh ерте ме, кеш пе (erte me, keş pe), Kyrgyz эртеби-кечпи (ertebi-kecpi), Tatar иртәме-соңмы (irtäme-soñmı), Turkmen ir-giç, Uzbek ertami-kechmi.
