esham
Turkish edit
Etymology edit
From Ottoman Turkish اسهام (esham), presuming a plural ***أَسْهَام (***ʔashām) of Arabic سَهْم (sahm), while in Arabic one uses, oddly contrary to this, the plural أَسْهُم (ʔashum) for “shares, stocks”, else verbal noun of form IV إِسْهَام (ʔishām, “to give a share in”).
Noun edit
esham (definite accusative eshamı, plural eshamlar)
- (finance) share
- (historical) annuities sold by the Ottoman treasury
