- (mineralogy) A trigonal clay mineral that is chemically and structurally related to green rust.

- Typical fougèrite crystals are small enough to become embedded in protocell membranes, which turns these crystals into natural channels, transporting and concentrating a chemical called pyrophosphate within these membranes.
