gekokoj
Esperanto
editEtymology
editFrom ge- (prefix indicating multiple genders together) + kokoj (“chickens”, or analyzed as "roosters, cocks").
Pronunciation
editNoun
editgekokoj (accusative gekokojn)
Usage notes
editThe prefix may be considered redundant because kokoj already means "chickens" (of any sex) in current Esperanto. Nevertheless, a difference can be made that kokoj can mean only hens (female) or roosters, cocks (male), but gekokoj always consists of both. However, this difference is not always made.
