Etymology edit

Compound of hipp +‎ som (as) +‎ happ. Unadapted borrowing from Danish hip som hap, borrowed from Low German hippen (hop). According to SO attested since 1916.

Compare with the rhyming structure of pick och pack (bag and baggage) and hugget som stucket (same difference).
