Etymology

edit

A derivative of kafshë + -oj. Alternatively (according to Meyer-Lübke) borrowed through Vulgar Latin from Late Latin captiō, from Latin captō. Other Latin proposals include Late Latin capsāre (Meyer) and most recently Late Latin capissere by Orel 1998.[1] Given the two forms, dialectal ajsonj and Old Tosk najsonj, the older form of this word could have been *knavshonj.
