karpuz
Turkish edit
Etymology edit
From Ottoman Turkish قارپوز (karpuz, “watermelon”), from Persian تربز (tarboz, “watermelon”) and likely influenced by Greek καρπός (karpós, “fruit, grain”), both from Ancient Greek καρπός (karpós, “fruit, grain, produce”), from Proto-Indo-European *kerp- (“pluck, harvest”), from *(s)ker- (“to cut”). Ultimately related to English harvest.
