Tocharian B

edit

Etymology

edit

Compare Tocharian A kräntso (beautiful). Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ǵʰer- (to yearn for), whence also Sanskrit हर्यति (haryati, to like; yearn after), Ancient Greek χαρτός (khartós, causing delight) and Armenian ձիր (jir, gift; grace). Alternatively from Proto-Indo-European **gʷr̥H-ont-, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷerH- (to praise); akin to Lithuanian gẽras (good, kind).
