- 1978, Chu Lai, chapter 2, in Nắng đồng bằng, NXB Quân đội Nhân dân:
  Anh đứng dậy, lảng ra hố bom, ngồi nhìn trân trân mấy mảng rong xanh giập giờn trong lòng nước.
  He got up, sneaked away to the bomb crater, and sat down to unmovingly look at the patches of green algae bobbing in and out of sight in the water.

- 1936, Vũ Trọng Phụng, chapter 2, in Số đỏ, Hà Nội báo:
  Muốn lảng chuyện, ông ta bảo người lính xuống nhà giam tạm, lôi bọn người bị bắt lên lấy cung.
  Wishing to turn the conversation away [from this topic], he told the policeman to go down to the temporary prison and drag the arrested people up for interrogation.
