Etymology

Calque of Chinese 五旬節五旬节 (Wǔxúnjié, literally Fifth-10-Days Festival), with tuần (7 days) used with its Vietnamese meaning, hence ngũ (five) was changed to thất (seven) to yield 49 days instead, which is close enough to 50.
