From Old Swedish nakke, from Old Norse hnakki, from Proto-Germanic *hnakkô, from Proto-Indo-European *knog-, *kneg- (back of the head, nape, neck), from Proto-Indo-European *ken- (to press, pinch, buckle, kink). Cognate with English neck.
