- It is a doublet of Vietnamese lằng (“common green bottle fly”).
- Its nặng-tone (instead of expected huyền) has resulted from either an irregular sound change (see vẹn), or borrowing from a regional Chinese dialect (see tạnh), or indirect borrowing (see tiếng).
