prunti
Esperanto edit
Etymology edit
From French emprunter (“borrow”).
Pronunciation edit
Verb edit
prunti (present pruntas, past pruntis, future pruntos, conditional pruntus, volitive pruntu)
Usage notes edit
Borrowing and lending can be distinguished with use of the prepositions de (“from”) and al (“to”), but it is also about as common to distinguish borrowing and lending with the compound verbs pruntepreni (literally “to borrow-take”) and pruntedoni (literally “to lend-give”) respectively. The verbs alprunti and deprunti also exist for lend and borrow respectively, but they are much less commonly used.
