pukol
Tagalog
editEtymology
editFrom Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *pukul (“hit with a stick”). Compare Asi pukoy, Bikol Central pukol, Aklanon pukoe, and Malay pukul.
Pronunciation
edit- (Standard Tagalog) IPA(key): /puˈkol/ [pʊˈxol]
- Rhymes: -ol
- Syllabification: pu‧kol
Noun
editpukól (Baybayin spelling ᜉᜓᜃᜓᜎ᜔)
Usage notes
edit- Usually used with unexpected objects. Some examples would be a stone, a wooden or metal rod, a gun, the tip of a shovel or spear, or the peen of a hammer. Unlike pukpok or tira, this is enough to brutally harm or even kill a person in a single blow and break something significantly or even completely.
